OPENTUNITY General Assembly in Madrid

The sixth General Assembly of the OPENTUNITY project took place in Madrid, Spain, on February 11 and 12, hosted by our partners at UNE. Over these two days, project partners gathered to discuss key developments, review progress across different work packages, and plan the next steps to maximize the project’s impact.

Expanding the Scope of Pilot Demonstrations

One of the key takeaways from the meeting was how the pilot sites are exceeding their initial plans, aiming to broaden their demonstration actions and reach wider audiences. This expansion highlights the increasing relevance and applicability of OPENTUNITY’s developments in real-world scenarios.

Advancements in Technical Developments

From a technical standpoint, significant progress was showcased, reinforcing the expectation that most developments will be finalized this year. The first insights into the final look of the project’s tools were presented, giving a clearer vision of their potential applications.

ETRA’s ÉTER Tool for DSOs

ETRA ETER toolETRA presented its tool for DSO operation and control, called ÉTER, which was demonstrated to OPENTUNITY DSOs. The tool enables functionalities such as short-term analysis of the impact of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) on the distribution grid and topology identification, among others.

State Estimation with PMUs by ICCS

ICCS toolICCS showcased how they are leveraging Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) to calculate state estimation of distribution grids while also predicting the optimal locations for new PMUs. This development will enhance grid monitoring and optimization.

NILM Algorithms and User Interface by ETRA

ETRA NILM algorithmETRA also presented the promising preliminary results of the Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) algorithms and the first look at the corresponding user interface. Thanks to these algorithms, small consumers will be able to monitor their energy assets’ performance and verify if they operate according to their energy labels.

Focus on Data Availability and Citizen Engagement

The second day of the assembly was dedicated to discussions about pilot sites, specifically focusing on data availability and citizen engagement. Plans were shared on how to involve users in interactive initiatives.

Looking Ahead

The General Assembly in Madrid was a key milestone for OPENTUNITY, reflecting the dedication and cooperation of all partners. As the project progresses towards its final stages, the focus remains on refining technical solutions, expanding pilot activities, and ensuring impactful real-world implementation. The continued collaboration between partners will be crucial in achieving OPENTUNITY’s vision of a more flexible and efficient energy system.
