The ecosystem proposed in OPENTUNITY can be seen as a digital environment where different actors in the energy sector improve the energy efficiency of the electricity system. These improvements apply to the electricity grids themselves and to active consumers – whatever their size – who see their energy costs reduced.

OPENTUNITY project aims to support energy actors, such as grid operators, prosumers, market players, among others by using innovative methodologies backed by advanced and interoperable software modules to provide them with new features and services. This includes technologies to increase flexibility in prosumer environments and technologies to help grid operators better manage grid operations.
OPENTUNITY plans to deploy twelve innovations that fall into four categories:
Overall, these innovations are intended to improve the energy system by making it more flexible, efficient, and sustainable.

OPENFLEX
Technologies to increase flexibility in prosumer environments.

OPENSPACE
Energy-specific Blockchain technology to support new grid mechanisms.

OPENGRID
Supporting technologies for Distribution System Operators and Transmission System Operators to better manage grid issues.

OPENABILITY
Procedures for enhancing interoperability.

Spain
Municipality of Santa Eulalia de Ronçana and city of Balenya
Improving the operation of the Distribution Grid to favour the installation of Distributed Renewable Sources.

Switzerland
Urban district of Via Motta in Massagno
Facilitating the settlement and operation of a Local Energy Community in accordance to Distribution Grid characteristics.

Slovenia
Portion of the grids of Elektro Primorska and Elektro Ljubljana
Utilising the flexibility potential of domestic assets and Electric Vehicles in order to provide services to the Distribution Grid

Greece
Mesogia area: municipalities of Koropi, Lavrio, N. Makri and the interconnected islands of Kea, Andros and Tinos

BRIDGE is an initiative of the European Commission that brings together Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects focused on smart grids, energy storage, islands, and digitalization. Its aim is to provide a structured view of the cross-cutting issues that demonstration projects face and that may hinder innovation. Through four Working Groups (WGs) focused on data management, business models, regulations, and customer and citizen engagement, BRIDGE promotes continuous knowledge sharing among projects, enabling them to deliver conclusions and recommendations on future project results exploitation with a unified voice.
OPENTUNITY is involved in these WGs, with a special effort made to coordinate activities with the BRIDGE initiative of H2020/Horizon EU Smart Grids and Storage projects to generate knowledge sharing and create synergies with other projects.
